"I've been making up a list of things I'd do to you, as we dance on either side of the room..."
As promised, this is Dragonette, one of the bands I saw on Saturday night. I've been listening to a lot of their music since the concert, and it's all fun, electronic, pop with an edge and I can't get enough. It just makes me want to dance & party.
This is "Liar," my current favorite song, from their latest album, Fixin to Thrill. I also recommend getting into their previous one, Galore.
Ahhh, it's just so good. I've been looking for my next good music fix, and I think Little Boots/Dragonette are it!
*I'm apparently having a serious moment for the music I was exposed to this weekend, and you guys are just going to have to bear with me. But if you have any suggestions based on what I'm posting, please share!
As you may have seen from my blog post and tweets, I saw Little Boots perform at Neumos on Saturday night.
It was one of the most fun concerts I've been to in a while. The crowd was going crazy, the music was perfect for dancing and the energy was electric. From the moment we walked in and got our first drinks, we didn't stop moving. Little Boots has some really addictive and catchy songs, and before we knew it we were clapping and screaming along with everyone else.
I woke up this morning with "I'm gonna take you out tonight, I'm gonna make you feel alright..." still stuck in my head.
I cannot get enough of this song, it's been on repeat on my ipod all weekend! (and I bet you'll love it too.)
Additionally, Little Boots' opening act, Dragonette, was really amazing. The lead singer is this teeny, dark-haired pixie of a girl, and she was wearing Sandy-gone-bad-in-Grease black pants and a cropped sweater while she rocked out. As we shimmied with the crowd, my friends and i kept gesturing at her with our cocktails and commenting on how she made us want to start a band. Look for a Dragonette song on this weeks MWMM...
If you're looking for a delicious electro-pop dance party to spice up your weekend, come meet me, Katy and Jen at Neumos on Cap Hill this Saturday night to see Little Boots with local DJ Tigerbeat.
Tigerbeat plays nextdoor to Neumos at MOE Bar on Monday nights, and I know from personal experience that he rarely fails to get every person in the room dancing wildly.
Sooo, put on your party skinny pants (or skirt, since I've decided that March means despite the temps, legs are back!) and get your dirty, sweaty, concert-lovin' hip-swingin' toosh to Neumos.
Tix are $15 in advance, $18 at the door; doors open at 8pm.
Neumos has a LOT of fun concerts coming up; I forsee a very hipster-y Spring!
Hot date Friday night? Struggling to come up with a cool, hip, just-a-tad-romantic idea? Problem solved, you're welcome.
Local favorites Hey Marseilles (as well as a band called The Globes) will be playing at The Vera Project on Republican & Warren, near the Seattle Center. The band's music has a laid back, indie vibe and is generally appealing and pleasing to the ear to just about anyone. They incorperate accordian, violin and all sorts of pretty instruments.
As a bonus, The Vera Project venue is also an art gallery, so be sure to check out what's currently featured. The venue is unique in that it's run by and for young people, to bring music and the arts to a younger demographic. There's no alcohol served, so after the show, pop up to The Sitting Room for a fancy cocktail and a bite.
It's an all-ages show, doors at 7:30 p.m. and its $11. Buy advanced tickets here.
Everyone who reads this blog knows I have a deep, devoted, love for Gossip Girl. This love permeates my wardrobe, my social schedule, my posts (obvi) and also, my ipod. GG has a knack for selecting amazing songs from up-and-coming bands with legitimate talent. How would I know, you ask?
Well, back in May I was driving down Madison and scoping out the concert schedule at Chop Suey, as I usually do when I get stopped at the light just before the venue. I saw that a band called The Virgins were performing a few days later. I only knew of them because I had downloaded one of their songs from the Gossip Girl soundtrack, and then my cousin burned me their entire album. It's damn good.
Anyway, I showed up early enough to catch both of the opening acts for The Virgins: Anya Marina and Lissie Trullie. They were both amazing. And what do you know, both of these acts have had songs featured on GG episodes since then.
(I also posted Anya Marina's video for her aaaamazing cover of T.I.'s Whatever You Like (recently played on GG), here.)
The point of this post, though, is that I have had the lines "I am ready I am ready for the fall" stuck in my head on repeat every now and then for over a month, and I could never remember where I heard the song in the first place. I only knew that I had loved it!
Last night my timing was finally right, and I happened to be on my computer when the lyrics came back into my head, so I googled them. After listening to some different versions of the song, called Ready For the Floor, I stumbled upon the version I remembered, which was by Lissie Trullie. As it turns out, I had heard it on a season 3 episode of Gossip Girl.
So here's the video for the song, which was also in the soundtrack for that wretched movie Jennifer's Body, in case you care...
She is so cool. Her androgynous-meets-punk-meets-fashionista-rocker look is fresh and her band is also pretty fab. And the song is just really great. I have to admit, I like it a lot more than the original version by Hot Chip.
So there you have it, 1 concert, 3 music acts, 6 songs on various episodes of Gossip Girl (the Virgins have had four).
Conclusion? Leighton Meester and I are destined to be besties. Yep. That's what that means.
Calling all hipsters: Owl City is performing at Neumos on Cap Hill tonight. The show is sold out, but I just thought I'd alert everyone. You could always head into MOE Bar first and try to finagle your way in from there...
Plus, they have this song and it's called "Hello Seattle!"
If you like dreamy, silly-lyric hipster music that has a lot of aquatic themes, you'll enjoy their album, Ocean Eyes.
Thursday night I got my hipster on at The Virgins concert at Chop Suey here in Seattle. I donned my buffalo plaid flannel shirt and my skinniest, blackest jeans and took in a great show and lots of cool style. The first opening act was Anya Marina, a pixie-ish blond with a cool voice.
I love her heavy thick bangs and cool suede ankle boots. Her outfit is feminine with a great rock-and-roll edge.
Calling all Gossip Girl fans / hipsters / people who like live music in Seattle...
The Virgins, whom iTunes categorizes as "alternative" but I categorize as "fab" are playing at Chop Suey on Madison (Capitol Hill) tonight. A bunch of their songs were featured on episodes of Gossip Girl in both season one and season two. ("Seventeen Candles" and "Chuck in Real Life") That's reason enough for me to be there, how about you?
Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $12 in advance, but I'm not sure how much at the door.
